Cyclosportives
What’s a cyclosportif? It’s an event ride analogous to what we call a “century” ride in N. America, although they’re also timed races with different age categories. They have feed stops, course marshals, mechanical support and motor escorts. Local folks come out to cheer on the cyclists. Participants are required to provide a license from a recognized racing organization, or else a certificate of medical fitness, and wear a helmet, and may include everyone from recreational riders to current and retired pros.
1-week itinerary Cyclosportives are held on a Saturday or Sunday. We assume you arrive already conditioned for the event. We suggest a 7-day (6-night) itinerary, which will let you fully enjoy the event, free from jet lag and prepared for your chosen event:
- Day 1: Bienvenue! Arrive at Lyon-Satolas (LYS) airport. We transfer you to our home base. Assemble bikes, short ride to stretch your legs and check out the bikes. Welcome dinner
- Day 2: Acclimate/adjust to jet-lag. Easy ride (30–40 miles, rollers to small hills)
- Day 3: Challenging ride (60+ miles, one or more mountain passes)
- Day 4: Taper/rest day. Register/collect registration materials & freebies
- Day 5: The Big Day! We transport you to the start, meet you after you finish to bring you home
- Day 6: Unwind. Easy ride to work out yesterday’s kinks, pack bikes. Farewell dinner
- Day 7: Au revoir! We deliver you to Lyon-Satolas (LYS) airport
In our vicinity, 2 cyclosportives, La Vaujany and La Marmotte, take place in late June/early July about 1 week apart. Please contact us if you’d like us to host you for either one.
