Weekly tours: Introduction Our Format Dates & Prices
Special tours: Fully-Custom Giro d’Italia Granfondi
For groups of 6–8 people of similar interests and cycling ability we can put together and lead a very affordable fully-supported bicycle tour in Northern Italy designed exclusively for you at prices in the low $300/day/person range. We’re most familiar with Piedmont and the Veneto (the Venetian mainland up through the Dolomites). The format may be fixed-base (as our dynamically customized regular tours in Piemonte), more conventionally nomadic point-to-point, or a blend of the two. Please contact us for more information.
We can also custom-design affordable tours around Granfondo events in the Veneto:
Sun Jun 15, 2008: Granfondo Campagnolo. Organized by the legendary Campagnolo company, this event draws participants from around the world to a starting line numbering in the 3000s. It may be frigid, it may rain, it may be sweltering, sometimes all 3 on the same day! The organization and support are top-notch and the routes traverse spectacular passes on the southern edge of the Dolomites.
Sun Jul 20, 2008: Granfondo Pinarello. Organized by Pinarello Bicycles, this very popular granfondo takes participants around some of the most scenic parts of Belluno province. The long course goes over leg-busting Passo San Boldo and Nevegal. Unfortunately, in 2008 the Pinarello takes place while Agile Compass is already committed to a Tour de France special.
Sun Aug 31, 2008: Granfondo del Monte Grappa. Climb the mighty Grappa Massif, and if that’s not enough, continue on the long course up the switchbacks to the Asiago plateau before speeding down the twisty descent from Foza to Valstagna to return to Bassano de Grappa.
In 2006 Agile Compass designed and led a custom 9-day tour at the express request of a group of San Francisco Bay Area cyclists who wanted to follow the Giro in the Dolomites. We started and ended at Varenna (at Lake Como), where we rode from Bellagio to Madonna del Ghisallo. From our 2nd base location in Garda (at Lake Garda), we rode to San Zeno di Montagna to prepare for our climb the next day to see the stage finish at Monte Bondone. Our 3rd base location was Kalterersee (Lago di Caldaro), where we were near the stage start in Tramin (Termeno) and then went to see the stage at Passo Pordoi (with option to ride the famous 4-pass Sella Ronda loop). We caught the stage at Passo Gavia, as well as the bottom of Passo Mortirolo on our way back to Varenna. Some chose to see the final stage start at Madonna del Ghisallo while others took the train into Milan for the grande finale.
